Account Setup
Configure your account and preferences to get the most out of bVAT. This guide covers business information, address, VAT registration, and account settings.
Introduction
After creating your bVAT account, the next step is to configure your account settings. Proper account setup ensures that:
- Your business information is accurately reflected in reports and documents
- VAT calculations use the correct rates and registration details
- Your account preferences match your workflow and requirements
- Team members have the right context when working with your data
Note: You can update these settings at any time. It's recommended to complete the initial setup before creating your first VAT entries for best results.
Configuration Sections
1Navigate to Settings
Click on the Settings icon in the navigation menu, then select "Business" from the settings menu.
2Edit Business Details
Click the "Edit" button next to Business Information to open the edit dialog.
3Enter Business Information
- Business Name: Your official business name
- Trading As: Your trading name (if different from business name)
- Business TIN: Your Tax Identification Number
- Contact Person: Primary contact for this business
- Reporting Type: Select your reporting type (if applicable)
- Taxpayer Group: Select your taxpayer group (if applicable)
4Save Changes
Click "Save" to update your business information. Changes are saved immediately.
Pro Tips
- Use your official registered business name for consistency
- The Business TIN is important for VAT return submissions
- You can update this information at any time
1Access Address Settings
In the Business settings page, locate the Address section.
2Edit Address
Click the "Edit" button next to Address to open the address editor.
3Enter Address Details
- Street Address: Your business street address
- City: Your business city
- Postal Code: Your postal or ZIP code
- Country: Your business country (defaults to Bahamas)
4Save Address
Click "Save" to store your address information.
Pro Tips
- Ensure your address matches your official business registration
- This address may be used on VAT returns and official documents
- You can update the address as needed if you relocate
1Open VAT Settings
In the Business settings page, scroll to the VAT Registration section.
2Edit VAT Information
Click the "Edit" button next to VAT Registration to configure your VAT details.
3Configure VAT Details
- VAT Registered: Toggle to indicate if you are VAT registered
- VAT Rate: Set your default VAT rate (typically 10% for Bahamas)
- Registration Date: Enter your VAT registration date
- Registration Number: Enter your VAT registration number
- Submission Type: Select your preferred submission method
4Save VAT Configuration
Click "Save" to store your VAT registration information.
Pro Tips
- If you're not VAT registered, you can still use bVAT to track transactions
- The VAT rate you set here will be used as the default for new entries
- Keep your registration number handy for VAT return submissions
- You can change your VAT rate at any time
1Access Account Settings
Navigate to Settings > Account from the main navigation menu.
2Update Profile Information
- Name: Update your display name
- Email: View your registered email (contact support to change)
- Password: Change your account password
3Configure Preferences
- Timezone: Set your preferred timezone
- Currency: Select your default currency
- Notifications: Configure email notification preferences
4Save Preferences
Click "Save Changes" to update your account preferences.

- Use a strong, unique password for your account
- Setting the correct timezone ensures accurate date/time tracking
- Currency settings affect how amounts are displayed throughout the app
- All settings can be updated at any time - don't worry about getting everything perfect on the first try
- Your business information is used in VAT returns and official documents, so accuracy is important
- If you're managing multiple businesses, you can create additional tenants (see Tenant Management documentation)

Common Issues & Troubleshooting
I can't find the Settings menu
The Settings menu is accessible from the main navigation. If you don't see it, make sure you're logged in and have the appropriate permissions.
Changes aren't saving
Make sure all required fields are filled out. Check for validation errors (usually shown in red). If issues persist, try refreshing the page and try again.
I need to change my email address
Email addresses cannot be changed from the account settings. Please contact support to update your email address.
What if I'm not VAT registered?
You can still use bVAT! Simply leave the "VAT Registered" toggle off. You can track transactions and generate reports even without VAT registration.
